The Kindness

She didn't recognise it
When she sat before it
She could see the flesh
And the face
Hear the words
And the myriad of micro expressions
She could feel her own mistrust
Paranoia
Powers of deduction

She chose to gamble
With her last hope
To trust another human
To be vulnerable
Against the odds of what she believed
To be true

And then to know
That one small gesture
A catalyst for change
Spark the kindling
Restore her faith
In herself as well
And to know
And feel
The kindness she never knew existed
