Poem -

The Kindness

She didn't recognise it
When she sat before it
She could see the flesh
And the face
Hear the words
And the myriad of micro expressions
She could feel her own mistrustĀ
Paranoia
Powers of deduction
Ā
She chose to gamble
With her last hopeĀ
To trust another human
To be vulnerableĀ
Against the odds of what she believedĀ
To be true

And then to knowĀ
That one small gestureĀ
A catalyst for changeĀ
Spark the kindling
Restore her faithĀ
In herself as wellĀ
And to know
And feelĀ
The kindness she never knew existed
