The Knot Garden

The Knot Garden

The garden was to commemorate the sailing
of the Pilgrim Fathers to America in 1620;
they arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts,
where a new world beckoned and forgets.

The English and Dutch mingled side by side,
a new life, perhaps it was time to take a bride,
the separatists were disillusioned with Europe,
then was the time to grab freedom and hope.

They had sailed from Plymouth in England,
where Drake and Raleigh had walked in the sand;
I drew the plans with a memorial camellia lawn,
a reminder of their brave journey was born.

Fountains and stone walls with the box hedge,
to work in their memory had been a privilege.
