The Last Flower

Dazed and confused
our hero once self assured
stumbles in the midst
of this endless eclipse

All comforting assumptions
about the power of truth
and justice
have been choked off
by the clinging
advancing ivy vines
rising from the muck
of unregulated
shit fertilized ignorance

Weary from battle
the defeated optimist 
lies down
and becomes consumed
by the unrelenting growth
of cynical hatred

Now hopelessly lost
deep in the thickets
of today's dominant
negative mindset
