The Last Lobster

The Last Lobster

I remember well the final lobster, that I would ever eat;

I picked out a fat two pounder; then I went and found my seat!

Ten minutes later they brought it to me, and I thought that I would die;

For its two black eyes were staring at me, as mine began to cry!

For this lovely creature, had life just a while ago;

Then I ordered its’ execution, and they killed it with a knife!

I could not bring myself to touch it, so guilty did I feel;

My gluttony had slain it, just to have a lousy meal!

That was the moment I discovered, I’d found the Buddhist Way;

To kill nothing that is living, from bugs to beasts of prey!

I’ve been true to my new path now, ever since my epiphany;

That lobster with those black eyes, that died, so I could be!

Hi  Larry  I have never tasted lobster
But i dont think i ever will. Your words made me
feel very sorry for the lobster, but that lobster had a huge affect on
you following Buddhism and to not  kill anything living again
respect to you my friend,
I enjoyed  Love and hugs Debs xox

Hi Debs,

I compare lobster to the apple in the forbidden tree, so succulent, but a terrible means to its end.  Thank you for understanding my plight.

Hi Greg,

While watching Master Chef last week, Gordon Ramsey taught his students how to at least instantly kill a lobster, and end this inhumane way of boiling them alive.  Of course, although I would know they had suffered less, I could never take away the little time they have left to live.  Thank you for your lovely comment.

Peace and Love,

Hi My Dear Tony,

This incident has been "clawing" at me for years.  So it was nice to finally get it off my chest.  It is a true story, and it happened soon after I became Nico's daddy.  I made allusions to this in some of my poems, about how he led me to the "Emerald Way".  Thank you, my Brother, and I am endeavoring to branch out to many more subjects.

Peace, Love and Rockets,

My Larry this is a great piece sweetie. I have been studying Buddhism for a long time through books in our local library and I just love the way they study and respect all life no matter what it is. I totally agree with you on this subject. I think it`s wrong of us humans to disregard life the way we do. Well done for a beautifully well written and well thought out piece that has the reader seriously thinking about life and the way we abuse it, but you also show how wonderful we can be too.

I love you

G xx

My Dear Georgina,

My dear little soulmate, Nico, brought me to what I call the "Emerald Path", i.e., a Buddhist mentality.  I seriously cannot even kill a little bug any more, for I think all living things have a soul, no matter how miniscule it might be!  One little doggie that engendered such large things in me.

Love from us both,

Linda and Larry

My Larry,

I`m exactly the same as you, I can`t even kill the flies that get into the house. I run around chasing them out of the house through the patio doors by shaking a tea towel at them and it works too. Geoff and the kids think it`s hilarious when I do it, but at least it makes them laugh watching me wobbling and bouncing around the house like a nutcase, shouting at the flies. I refuse to use fly killer spray and I give Geoff a telling off if he kills any bugs. I rescue anything that gets into the house, I even pick up the spiders and gently take them out to the garden for safety. Geoff says I`m a soppy bloody mare!! but he says he loves me anyway!! (I suppose some poor sods got to!!) I don`t think we have the right to kill anything. I don`t eat meat either because I can`t bear the thought of an animal being killed.

Well done again for this superb piece sweetie

I adore you

G xx

Hi G,

That is so "the two of us".!  We have hardly any flies down in our neighborhood in Florida, but oft times when I travel and check into a room, some inconsiderate maid will have kept the door open and allowed flies to enter.  Then, when I get to my room I have several little friends waiting to greet me.  I meticulously grab a towel, open the door and shoo every one out without harming any.  What a beautiful way of life, to respect every living thing.

Love to you,

xox Larry
