The legend of Gelert the Dog

I shall try to tell you all a sensational story
Filled with such sovereignty and glamorous glory
Thus avoiding any fabricated fictional jackanory
Mind you let’s hope I manage to tell this tall tale with hunky dory..
Once upon a starry night
Twas in those bygone days when this happenstance came to light
That big ol’e moon was shining bright
When a gallant Prince fought his fearful fight..
This keen countryside sportsman had a faithful hound
Who stood by his masters side on his hunting ground
But that fateful night blood dripped from his Dog, Gelert’s jaws when he was found
As his one year old beloved boy slept in his little bed without a sound..
Red with rage mistaken Prince Llywelyn sped
As he followed the bloody tracks where that trail had led
Thinking his tiny beautiful boy lay savaged in his cradled bed
With one strike of his sword in Gelerts head that doting Dog lay bloody and dead..
But as the Prince was mounting his large white Steed
Suddenly he came upon a slaughtered Wolf where this trail did lead
At once Llywelyn returned to mourn the loss of his lovely Gelert with speed...
This awful error of judgement was to haunt him indeed..
His son was as right as rain when he did awake
Though he mourned the loss of his Dog through that terrible mistake
Oh for many more years how his heart did break
And still to this day a cairn of stones marks that lonesome grave of Gelerts namesake...
Gelert lies resting in peace outside the castle walls
With his beautiful pictures lining those fabulous halls
Proudly hunting that wild Wolf with his brave eye balls
And eerily one may beggar belief that they can still hear his comfortless calls...
