The Light
By Jess
‘Oh my gosh stop, or i'm going kill myself’. That isn’t a reason for suicide you may say to yourself but you don't know what they life away from you is like but, you don't care, hey, you probably don't notice. The dark circles under her eyes. She covers it with makeup. That bruise she got from walking into the door the other day. Her father hit her because she didn't put the washing away. Those scars on her wrists and thighs, she covers those with her sleeves. ‘It’s 30 degrees outside and you're gonna melt in that jacket.’ The reality is that she doesn't want you to see her impurities. Ping. That's the sound of your messages asking if she wants to hang out with you. She replies to your message while her face is streaming with tears while her light has a rope ready for her to swing from. You may not know it but you could have saved your friend or somebody you probably don't even know just by saying something. Months go by and you probably forgot about that night you saved her life. But she shows up to school completely out of it. Ping. That's the random guy she's talking to she met at the park. He rang her. He didn't know what was wrong, he didn't want to ask but he stayed up all night with her comforting her making sure she was okay and stayed on the phone until she was asleep and fell asleep. The next day she came into school all happy and cheery ready for the day. She fell. Everyone laughed. This continued for months. The boy who comforted her tried his best. But one day the girl stopped answering everyone and was found by her father. Swinging from the light.
