The Light And The Darkness

I remember when I was a young lad, the Summer days shone so bright;
The blue skies were perpetual, they lasted till early night!
We played baseball and drank lots of Kool-Aid, our skin was very tan;
After dinner we got together, and played a game called “Kick The Can”!

But today things are so different, the weather has drastically changed;
Oft times the sky is darkened, by the neverending rains!
Global warming is upon us, it’s the price we’ve had to pay;
For the desecration of our Planet, that goes on now every day!

The trees in the Amazon Forest, are hewn for mankind’s use;
The oceans are filled with garbage, more signs of Earth’s abuse!
The air is full of pollution, ozone levels very dire;
The icebergs are all melting, we wallow in our mire!
.
Those fools who say it’s nonexistent, and refuse to see our pending doom;
Won’t realize until it’s too late, the end of us now looms!
But there’s a chance to avoid our demises, if we all do our fair share;
To stop Earth’s wanton carnage, and to fix what we’ve impaired!

                                 Yesterday’s sunlight
                        Has become today’s darkness
                             Mother Earth crumbles
