The little boy of seven

The little boy of seven

It was the night before Christmas,
and all the children sleepĀ
Eyes closed tightly,
wrapped up in cottonĀ sheets
And upon high in the sky
a sleigh did fly,
and reindeer's he did steer
and in the children’s bedroomsĀ
sandman removed their fearsĀ

Now Santa had a job to do,
and not much time to do itĀ
so down the chimney Santa went to
deliver children’s presentsĀ
but on this snowy Christmas eve,
just after elevenĀ
he met a boy who was not asleep,
his age was around seven.

Now everybody knows
that Santa should not be seenĀ
Especially on this snowy night
that we call Christmas eve
The boy could not believe his eyes;
he had to rub them twiceĀ
And when he finished rubbing themĀ
Santa sat eating mince piesĀ

He walked over to Santa
and prodded his fat bellyĀ
While Santa laughed jollilyĀ
and then turned on the telly
The boys eyes they did openĀ
when he saw what was on the newsĀ
He then turned to Santa and
said "how come? i amĀ confused,
how come you're here and on the news?"Ā

Well Santa sat him on his knee
and started to explainĀ
That he has decoys everywhere,
so his identity remainsĀ

Now Santa he did say to this boy
around the age of seven
On this snowy Christmas eve,
now just past eleven
You cannot tell a soul you saw me;Ā
that would be bad for business
And all the children,Ā
would forget the true meaning
of Christmas

My identity has to remain,
for I am just a manĀ
But once a year I put on these clothes,
and do the best I can

I try and bring more than presents,Ā
and good will to all mankindĀ
But if my secret ever got out
there be no more Christmas lights

so on this snowy Christmas eve
this boy of around seven,
looked up to the clock that now read
quarter past elevenĀ

he turned to Santa teary eyed and said
ā€œyour secret is safe with meĀ
I wouldn’t want to spoil other children’s fun,
you fill their world with glee,Ā
So I’ll forget I saw you,Ā
just promise one thing to me?
That you will come back every year,Ā
and leave presents under my tree."Ā
