The Magnificent Five

The Magnificent Five

On a very special evening, in April of nineteen forty-seven;
Two brothers and their sister, photographed their gifts from up in Heaven!
We were the first of all the grandchildren, born in our close-knit family;
Rozzie, Sherry, and Ronnie below us, Marlene right next to me!
.
They dressed us up so chicly, in all our Sunday best;
They combed our hair so neatly, for this most important fest!
They arranged us at the credenza, three siblings, with their cousins up above;
Before they took our picture, they filled us with their love!
.
Then they said, “Smile for the birdie”, so we tried our best to grin;
But Marlene and I were inquisitive, looking for a feathered friend within!
When we failed then to spot one, we thought our parents were “cuckoo”;
They’d say anything for a good picture, what’s a little kid to do?
.
.
                                Smile for the birdie
                          But no feathers did we see
                             Guess it flew the coop
