The Mirror

The Mirror

Let me tell you the story of a mirror, one that is for you so please give me an ear.  There is this mirror, just sitting alongside the road. A mirror that stood and watched life go. A man walked passed this mirror and smiled as he went, he fixed his tie and straightened his hair, then briskly left. A woman glanced at the mirror and was stopped by a reflection, not of her own, by one of whom was behind her, one most attractive. She thought a thought then carried on, because her mind had entered a place, she knew she did not belong. Later in the day, a girl was strolling down the street, she noticed the mirror and couldn’t help but freeze. She looked into the mirror and saw nothing new.  Same oversized clothes, same ugly shoes. She looked in the mirror and at her extra large shirt, sucked in her gut and thought “this will work”.  So she carried on, trying to look small. The world didn’t like her large afterall. By the close of the day another man walked passed the mirror, what he saw wasn’t a person, a lie, an insecure feature. He saw contentment and joy, he saw a man,  with the bliss of a boy. As night fell, there the mirror stood, speaking the truth, which only few had heard. So I question who are you? Who do you see when you look in the mirror? Are you the man that is concerned with his appearance, the woman who wants more than what the eyes can see, the girl who is trying to fit the world’s cookie cutter shape or are you the man who saw who he was, not who he looks like.  Will you go public with who you are? Or will you hide within the world, the choice is yours.
