The Ninth Wave

The Ninth Wave

An element of danger not for the meek.
Living for the moment I once did seek...

I surfed the waves when I was young,
White-crested demons I rode among.
Still hear their angry roar to this very day,
Feel their power and sharp sea-salt spray.

Sometimes you wipe-out, sometimes you win.
Those euphoric times riding one all the way in.
But the mystical Ninth Wave is the one I crave,
It'll sense hesitation and drag you to the grave.

Wave upon wave each mightier than the last,
Till last a ninth one its power unsurpassed.
So sharpen your wits if you dare ride upon one,
And bang your drum loudly for your life's begun.

Pratibha thank you for your most generous and gracious comment and from your good self always warmly welcomed.
And glad you enjoyed it and I don't know about writing anything, let alone well!!
This was one I was never happy with and rewrote and rejigged a few things.
For thank the stars poetry is never a dry cement process and one can rejig and tweak even years later as the truly great poets have done.
I'm just a mere minnow swimming with the big boys and girls.
Thanks again my friend for your treasured support and it's never forgotten.❤️

Wow I felt this was like a metaphor and here in this wonderful stanza, you depict the moment the soul is taken by that last wave. Like a cat with nine lives, this final wave shall transcend you to your resting place.

Fabulous imagery and poetry my friend :) x

Gwen, thank you so much for your kind comments and this is one rewritten more than a tad and also you are right about nine lives and the Ninth Wave is a painting by Russian artist Ivan Aivazovsky in which sailors cling to debris wreckage in the shape of a cross looking toward a storm free sea with a welcoming sun and who knows perhaps survival salvation.
Real open ended stuff.
And thanks again my friend for all your radiant and bouyant comments and this late reply master will raise his game tomorrow and strive to reply to them!❤️
