The OAP
A poem dedicated to losing my beautiful horse
The OAP
I called her my OAP,
Old age pony to you and me,
An instant connection we made,
And over the years it failed to fade,
So many memories have been created,
And although at times I got frustrated,
I never put the blame on to you,
And we always managed to pull through,
You kept my head straight when I started to drift,
Our relationship was truly the greatest gift,
The time has come to say our goodbyes,
And I’m so sorry how the time just flies,
Now we must finally part ways,
And there’s so many words I have left to say,
I’m by your side to see you go,
And now the emotions start to flow,
I’m certain you’ve gone to a special place,
And you’ll carry on living with grace,Â
In my heart you always will be,
And may you continue to look after me.Â

You held so much admiration for your beloved pet. It comes through in your poem. I liked your rhyme scheme and the parts about why you loved your horse. What a heartfelt poem. It left me smiling, knowing the bond between an animal and a human cannot be duplicated.Â
I also liked how you started several of the sentences with (And) because, in typical English it's often frowned upon. In this case, using the word at the beginning was a great way to tell more about the relationship.Â
