The Old Poet

Said the old poet,
"Sit not too still, gentle observer,
for as the cherries fall
from the tree of knowing,
be quick, to paint with words
upon the parchment
of still life."
----------------------------
His hand moved like silk
as he wrote.
This is what I am,
to leave this written exculpation.
Here is my life.
Surfing through shadows and intervals,
endowed with an eccentric heart
and winsome dreams,
withered in the forehead
like an old reflection
like the smell of an aging house
like a hollowed acorn
falling to its final resting place
I pen the passages of my 'Odyssey'
as an obstinate observer
carefully tasting the tempo
of each season,
from February dew
to January snows,
I am,
the driven documenter
of all this life
has given me,
and I pray
someday,
someone,
somewhere,
reads my life,
and smiles...

Hi Tony.... this is a wonderful example of complete mastery of your subject matter!!!!
You have created a wonderful image of an aged soul with a lifetime of experience and spiritual understanding wanting to create an 'Odyssey' of his life experiences- beautifully expressed and such a joy to read. Thank you for that! xx

A painting I shall not forget
More than words, a melody
I would applaud were you able to hear
however distance being what it is
I can only let my words
clash and bang together
in a feeble attempt to say
what a feel reading this.
Would that I were I blessed "with an eccentric heart
and winsome dreams"

Yes a lovely poem that sums up a lifetime of observation, from a character that can see the end of his own horizon.
