The Older I Get

The Older I Get

Sometimes I wish to return to correct what I forgot,
but I can not, it's gone, relentless, I have to go on;
I ask the matriarch - what is the key to equanmity?
You'll never know, only God has what's best for me.

I play chess online - then beat someone from Germany,
he lost his queen, how sad for real that could have been,
of course, it's only a game but we're living a positive role;
we had a dull friend, used to laugh, there goes Barry Cole.

Maybe it was us, not him but we're mean it would seem,
that we think we're so smart, others pale into insignificance;
where's the compassion, humility, tolerance, even love,
oddly, all of that was misdirected from somewhere above.

I'm better now and they ask me how easy it may be to fly,
lighten up, smile, next time when 'your' Barry Cole goes by.
