The Outside Room

The Outside Room

I felt the night transcend into something more
As I drank coffee
in my living room, watching
what I thought was entertainment on television
So sad and somehow with glee...

I rose and poured another cup
then returned to my worn and coffee-stained sofa
expecting to be entertained
But, the more I looked out the picture window
and saw the moon...

bright as a spotlight and growing in brilliance
I looked around the living room, felt it dying
I became entombed
I rose again and opened the door
and felt the pull of that luminous wonder

The stars glittered like diamonds
and suddenly I felt at home
I was in an outside room, enveloped by a feeling of oneness
I turned out all lights in my home...
And stayed in my outside room
