The Path Of No Return

For our Blessed Angel Cody, who joined Nico in Heaven on August 5th

The most horrid route I ever took, which has made my heart e’er churn;
Was the one I drove two months ago, “The Path Of No Return”!
You settled in your little spot, the one you rode in every day;
But this would be your final trip, for you were going just one way!

Your body weak, you could not walk, nor food you wanted eat;
Your brave fight was soon to end, Dear Nico would you greet!
My free arm gently stroked your back, fighting eruptions of my soul;
For soon you would be leaving me, ne’er again would I be whole!
.
We pulled into the parking lot, the place where you so often came;
For grooming, baths and prevention shots, but this day was not the same!
Because the needle they were giving you, was going to end your pain;
But also end your Blessed Life, and start my sorrow’s endless reign!

                            My heart atrophies
                Without the warmth from your love
                           It now e’er shivers
