THE PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER

The foundations of the nation has collapsed to its knees
Families wait while they struggle
And the empty streets no longer bustle
Causing the family man to hustle
While they plead on their knees
‘The end is coming, the end is coming’
Screams the crazy man down the street
While the middle and lower classes plead on their knees.
No one listens to the tragic tinfoil topped troll
Society’s toll.
Because even if what he’s saying is true
What can we all do
Currency runs dry
like the taps and food supply
Everyday survival we are treading
While we wait on our knees
For the beheading
And like Lazarus from the dead
When the people have nothing
left to lose
They stand up in legions bonded by abandonment
And the bitter, sweet melting pot of humanity fuses.
The fight for freedom and the thirst to thrive takes a turn
The shimmering shackles shake and crackle.
Revolution in the billions begins
Though it is the final hour
because it always was and always will be,
the people with the power.

Well written and extremely pertinent for the times we are in. This brings to my mind Afghanistan... but the truth is this could be about anywhere. Great poem x
Hello Demetrius, this is one of those poems that sketches a moment in history perfectly. Something I hope one day in the future others keep reading and talking about. You have some wonderful wording throughout this poem
"They stand up in legions bonded by abandonment
And the bitter, sweet melting pot of humanity fuses"
Just wow, great imagery
"The shimmering shackles shake and crackle"
Not only creative here in your wording, but impactful and rhyming within the line. I love it when a poem does this. Your pen is mighty and I am so pleased to of read you today.
A symbolic write for these drastic times
Many thanks for posting and Welcome to Cosmo
Gwen :)
