The Piper

Plethora from the forests and hilly terrain,
Of disease carrying critters through sunshine and rain.
They swamp through the valleys to crescendo on waves,
They trample through the streets and sprawl over graves.
Β
Strange melody in tune allures them in flocks,
They dance to his chord along high walls and docks,
Through plague laden streets trapped in his tune,
To the joy of the towns people watchful, immune.
Β
Through taverns of Hamelin midst beer swilling gents,
They climb through the windows and crawl through the vents.
They follow in his rhythm and dance to his beat,
Lured from the shadows, entranced by his feet.
Β
The towns people cheer as the river awaits,
The vermin spills over as they meet their fates.
One after the other, they delve into the abyss,
The streets clean of plague, its sunshine and bliss.
Β
A large coin in return for services rendered,
The pied piper of Hamelin, always remembered.
