The Sacred Song

From the moment I let out my first cry
I knew my origin and my purpose
On this cruel earth
The beating of a distant drum called to me as a wolf
.....a wolf languishing in chains
For the most part of my wild life.......
I failed to heed the callĀ
I was lost....
Forlorn and forsaken
I paid a most heinous cost
Because I came from such small beginnings
Raised as pure Native
Yet I failed in rebellion as I attempted to portray a Native without loss
Yet I lost so much because I've forgotten that song
.....the song my grandmother sang when I howled my first cry
Now I will do...and not try
To sing the sacred song

Thank you Lodigiana! I'm honored. I wrote this in remembrance of my late grandmother, who sang her own traditional songs. And there was one particular song she loved to sing and I still remember it. I was a wild child, but whenever she sang I listened. Peace, my friend.
