The Salmon

The silvery slithery salmon
Skimmed the salty sea
It had so many hurdlesÂ
To reach fresh water, safe & free
An ebbing flowing tide
Isn’t an easy plight
Salmon force the way forward
With all their might
Precariously pounding its travels through the sea
Salmon narrowly avoids a trawers net
As ginormous as can be
Plodding on,
No time to spare
It needs to keep up with the others
They will all spawn there
Finally fatigued
Salmon reaches the weir
Still many dangers lurk here
I fear
For at the summit of the barrier
Salmon has to hurl
It lunges itself up
Whilst its tail does curl
Jumping & leaping frenzingly high
This spectacle is phenomenon
To the human eye
A unique display for a passerby
Hitting the ledge, weakening
It isn’t deterred
Salmon springs up in action
Splish splashes can be heard
On & On fearless fish
Bounces & bounds
The waterfall is deafening
Swim bladders vibrate gushing sounds
As if all is lost,
he can take no more
Salmon attempts a summersault
It vaults with implore
Victoriously successful
Salmon vertically leaps
Swims on through the weir
To the fresh water so deep
Finally finding rest
His colour is changed
He ovulates his eggs
So incredible & strange
As after this death defying act
Salmon is so energy lacked
He has no will is in a sorry sight
Death is doleful, hes lost the fight
