The Sight Before Christmas

The Sight Before Christmas

Wide awake; I lay in bed,
A picture perfect day forming in my head –

Tomorrow, I’ll run around the sleeping house,
Not one person should be resting; not even a mouse!

In the corner stands the tree,
Under which lay presents guaranteed to bring glee

Ripping open these bundles of surprise,
They’ll be the sole reason for how early we rise!

Later, slipping into a glittery dress,
Taming my hair out of the knotty mess,

Walking amongst family and friend,
 Smiling from end to end,

I’ll savour the scrumptious meal,
Each and every heart it’ll have the warmth to heal,

Then - stepping out of the fancy heels,
Into slippers- how welcoming that will feel!

The day will have gone so fast,
But a day like Christmas cannot last.

As I wrap myself in warm blankets that night,
I’ll reflect upon a day so full of light,

I’ll feel the joy warming my heart,
For Christmas has been my favourite since the start!

I’ll wish St Nicholas all the best,
For he will have to deliver joy with not a second’s rest…

As these many restless visions fill my head,
I choose to close my eyes instead -

Only to open them the very next day,
At my lips - a smile shall play,

For there is only one day of the year,
That could possibly be filled with such magic and cheer!

I open the door to my room with a smile,
Because this twenty-fifth, we’ll all go the extra mile

We’ll ensure that the day is so full of love,
And we’ll help the flight of the peaceful white dove

Christmas is about peace,
About happiness, not geese!

It’s goofy; not at all hateful,
And for that I’m quite grateful,

So I say this with a smile and I say this with a hug,
Don’t be a scrooge or a Grinch or a bug-

Just be lovely and kind this sweet Christmas month!
