The Silence Of The Lamb
For the rest of my life I shall never forget, the night you had to leave;
I laid you down to take a good rest, and given you medicine, your pain to relieve!
But three hours later I found you there, sprawled out upon the cold floor;
The silence of my little lamb, asleep for evermore!
I cleaned you up and laid you back down, I mourned the night away;
Resting in your bed so peacefully, I wept till light of day!
I played the songs of natures’ sounds, the ones you loved so much;
I laid my head upon your chest, now still as it I’d touch!
I cursed the Fates for taking you, and stealing precious years;
The ones I thought we still had left, to hold and keep you near!
At times the heat would blow your fur, and seem you’d soon awake;
But I knew it not, and begged the Lord, your precious soul to take!
The only thing I’m thankful for, is the way we said goodbye;
For instead of having a doctor’s shot, you chose from home to fly!
And I got to hold you all night long, and choose our final kiss;
The silence of my little lamb, forever him I’ll miss!
