THE SINGING TREE

As a childĀ
I yearned and yearned
To find a singing tree
A tree filled full with lullabyes
That it might sing to me
To comfort meĀ
With shadedĀ care
That my child's heart
Might burrow there
But the tall ones laughed and turned their backs
For common sense they said I lacked
But a child's heart knows so many things
And my child's soul yearned
The tree that sings
So I searched the mountains every day
Sent wishes to a sky too grey
Ran the valleys gold and green
Cast hopes into the stars lost sheen
For as a child
I yearned and yearned
To find a singing tree
A tree filled full with lullabyes
Though it never sang for me
Many suns have since then passed
Though forgotten I have not
With precious dreams we never part
Stay lockedĀ within the small child's heart
IĀ restĀ now in the midnight's black
In company with the moon
A softest wind does stir the air
And I listen to a haunting tune
To theĀ whispering leaves in autumns coat
To the owls that call in flight
To the rustling breeze that moans and sighs
And im blessed with new insight
For the singing tree is all around
In the river sky the seas and ground
In the rain and wind and sun and air
The singing tree is everywhere
And I hear it's song tonight....
