The Sixteenth Of Never

The Sixteenth Of Never

When I was nineteen years old, Johnny Mathis sang a song;

It was called “The Twelfth of Never”, and was popular real long!

But for you the tune was different; the Fates were very mean;

For at thirteen years and counting, your “never” was sixteen!

For that’s the date that I would lose you, on a cold and wintery night;

Just five months short of age fourteen, you lost your valiant fight!

You floated up to Heaven, my soulmate from the start;

As you left I felt a sensation, it was the imploding of my heart!

Now the “Nevers” are in the thousands, for all the joys I’ve lost;

To never kiss your face again, or throw the balls I tossed!

To never give you “Belly Rubs”, as beside me you would lay;

To never take our walks again, at least three times a day!

The “Nevers” are never ending, so’s the loneliness I feel;

Each day and night without you, has been life’s worst ordeal!

But another “never ending”, is the love I have so true;

For “until the Twelfth of Never, I’ll still be loving you”!
