The Song of the Beeches

(birth of a poem)

The Song of the Beeches

Here, on my own,
off the trail,
I hail the Horned One,
the Woman of these Woods
and her pack of wolves.

On their trail I float back
to beginnings, to
a circle of beeches
humming –
they whisper their wisdom
to the woods,
a grandmother’s spell to see
her grandchildren fully grown.

On their rhythm I drift even deeper
into those sounds
to find there kernels
of what will one day
become these lines.

A rain of beech nuts seals the sentence
ever open to my ears, my heart,
till this present time
when I write this poem
in honour of the ancient Ones,

a circle of standing words.

Excellent work my friend......in honoring that which is naturally magical in its tendency.....or inherent giftedness......to recognize that which most often goes without being recognized.......that ~ "Circle of standing words.." as it were......or "Circle of Beeches ~ humming..".......smiles......were you always able to hear the whispers of "The horned One"?......or interpret the sounds JOHN?......regardless, I like the subtleties you employ in delivering on this type of subject matter!!.......ALL STARS!!......well done dear poet brother.....LOVE & ROCKETS!!........T xo  : )

Yes, in a way I am always open to the whispers of the Horned One and am secretly laughing my head of if I see people thinking they shock people by making the sign (index finger and pink, like the hard rock youth does), thinking it is about Satan, while in fact they make a positive sign: they invoke Cernunnos 😁🤘

Cernunnos?!.....wasn't that/he an ancient fertility god?....No, wait.....a horned God of Beasts right?....I don't really know much about the Gaelic Gods or practices but I remember that because there were Deer Antlers on his head.....I think?...Anyway, I didn't know that about the kids believing it was satanic.....I'll be sure to smile to myself the next time I see a kid making that sign!! (smiles).....thanx for passing that on brother!!.......Later.......T xo  : )

Aye, the antlers are there for sure. He was the Celtic God of Nature (basically in Gaul, now France). I think, however, there might also be a bit of Moloch in him, he was a nasty God, rumour has it. Anyway, ancient legends can be fun😇
