The Spider And The Fly

Come into my parlour,
Said the spider to the fly.
I vow I won't hurt you,
A promise I won't defy.
For I have secrets to tell,
Let me whisper in your ear.
Then soon you'll understand,
Things aren't what they appear.
Just move a little further,
As I steal closer to you.
So innocent and unsuspecting,
The hell I'll put you through.
Four pairs of deadly eyes,
Watch cold and unblinking.
Now my sharp fangs revealed,
Into to you deeply sinking.
Don't struggle my little fly,
For I'll embrace you more.
Here in my corner home,
Gossamer woven above the door.
In me you shouldn't trust,,
For I deceive with such delight.
And little fly I thank you,
Spider isn't going hungry tonight.
Dedicated to and inspired by Robert Smith of The Cure and their brilliant song Lullaby.

Enjoyed Shaun!
Thanks Max for your comment but the real kudos is owed to The Cure's Robert Smith who is a true poetic genius and their haunting great song Lullaby, which this poem drew inspiration from.
I'll be back later for its half time as Wales plays France for Rugby Union's Grand Slam. A big game!!!!
Thanks again Max and back later to read and put more up.

I have not heard of the Cure's Lullaby song but I absolutely love Mary Howitt's poem "The Spider And The Fly" and that is why I love your poem here Shaun. A fist full of stars! ⚘x
Tina many thanks for your kind and informative comment I haven't read Mary Howitt's original for some time but will do so now.
And If you can spare the time check out Lullaby on youtube it is a brilliant song by The Cure with perfect and most catchy and haunting music to accompany lead singer's Robert Smith poetic lyrics.
Thanks again and I wish you well
