The Storm

Lying on the silky white sand, I hear the waves rolling in

washing a soft lullaby against the unyielding rocks

im waiting for the storm to begin

looking up at the infinite sky, the stars are hidden by cloud

a flash of bright white cuts through the dark

a roar of thunder rolls closer, breaking the silent shroud

my heart beats a melody loud in my ears, the air is electric

the first drops caress me

my breath quickens.Β I'm patiently awaiting the theatrics

the air picks up around me, swirling and churning viciously

the waves begin to surge and roar

the thunderΒ pounds like a thousand drums beating forcefully

Lightning strikes a constant pattern, a blinding glow against the night

the Storm plays out dramatically

but still I know there is more to come, lurking just beyond my sight

the rain gushes down in torrents now, reaching the violent, swirling sea

the wind howls a terrifying symphony

thunder echoes deafeningly off the rocks that are protecting me

i waited all night for the storm to begin; now I wait for it to stop

i wait patiently again

time slips by slowly as I sit, and suddenly the wind begins to drop

the Thunder quiets from a vicious roar to a soothing hum

i can tell it's nearly over

the storm retreats as if it had never come
