The Toothless Lion

The Toothless Lion

Bite down on those words you fear to give life,
till you grind off your teeth;
they’ll survive through your silence.
The cage of reality persists,
fear are the bars which trap you within.
The toothless lion asleep in its cell,
abates loves cursory glance with its rumbling slumber.
Listen to the softness of its heart,
it exposes the pounding of yours.
In stillness,
that which pierces the chaos remains.

I appease with silence,
the unseen sacrifice;
truths heard but not spoken,
which thrash through my head
and distort my soft heart.
A nerve exposed beneath broken shell
will miss your fair touch.
Was staying ever an option?
For our love was a lullaby,
but I was your couch
while you were my cradle.
