The Young Gun And The Old Cannon

I remember so many years ago, I was so very quick on the draw;
A “Young Gun” who shot straightly, I did not hem and haw!
If an obstacle stood in my path, I blew it clear away;
Another notch in my gun belt, another successful day!
.
But now, I am but a shadow, of what I used to be;
A rust-caked “Old Cannon”, no power left in me!
The barriers I face now, I’ve lost the strength to try to fight;
The wrongs that e’er surround me, no longer can I right!
.
I feel so very helpless, I try to do now what I can;
But adversity overpowers me, on my feet I cannot stand!
I used to be a macho stud, so confident and sure;
But now I’m old and broken, with pain I can’t endure!
.
.
         The Young Gun got old
      No more fight left in his bones
           Fading so quickly
