Then There Was You

There are so many 
Outrageous beliefs tossed around.

Like that we are the
Only creautres in the universe,
Or that the entire 
Earth was created in a mere week.

But there is one I
Believe to be essentially accurate,
And that is the utter
Misperception of one through their own eyes.

Trying to obtain the perfect image,
Your quirks that make you yourself are lost.

Like the way your head
Tilts far to one side when you laugh,
Or the way you fiddle
With your fingers as you speak.

And it's not until you
Cross a certain path and make a connection,
That you begin to realize all
Those small parts are insignificant.

Because you can hear the smile
In their voice as your name crosses their lips,
And you can see the joy
The joy in their eyes as you walk their way.

Without realizing it,
You are now just as happy
To have met them,
As you are to be yourself.
