There's A Monster By Her Bed

I awoke abruptly from a dream
That of a voice whispering in my ear a scream,
Some kind of force beckoned me
To go to my daughter's room and see.
I crept across the creaking floor
Deeply breathing outside her door,
Listening and waiting for what felt like way too long
I knew the feeling was off, something was wrong.
Upon entering the room I fell in
Gained my feet as gripping fear left me frozen,
standind staring at a dark figure bent over her
My presence felt he squared and stirred,
The eyes play tricks on what the mind sees
Evil licked it's lips and glared at me.
If ev'er any time to doubt myself
Looking within my heart that cried out for help,
The spitting of sins it cursed upon my face
Whispering murder to my Grace,
No man has ever endured such a fight
But keeping my head reaching to the right
I flicked the switch and found the light.
She awoke abruptly from a dream
Just as I let out a silent scream,
Love ruled over fear
Triumphing evil to stay clear,
I knelt to my knees looking her way
Saying, "Baby girl we forgot to pray."
Amazed to once again control destiny,
When I again awoke abruptly from a dream
Not a whispering voice, but to a child's scream.
