Poem -

They Said...

Face down…

At least

I think it’s my face…

Mud encrusted

Dimples for the world

To see

Covered in the muck…

They said my dimples

Made me

Just like them,

My family…

They said I would

Go far,

See the world,

Soar to new heights

But now…

Now reality comes crashing,

They said I could have been

A Champion,

Maybe even a Titleist…

But for the mud…

Even now

The intentions of this brute

With a club

Becomes clear

His face, a squint eyed

Mask of determination,

Sweat dripping as he

Again stares at my

Futile attempt at concealment

With focused intensity,

Now with his weapon raised

I again think of sights unseen

And my family’s words when

They said I’d see the world

And then the

Inevitable blow

And I

Realize…gloriously,

That they were right…

I just didn’t think

I’d see it

A hundred yards

At a time.

(A day in the life of a golf ball).
