Thicker Than Water
A self professed chancer,
He left her with no answer
To the questions in her head,
A million words left unsaid.
Her life, punctuated by voids,
Had left her half destroyed,Â
And you were one full stop too many
Rolled up like a bad penny.Â
You showed her your best side,
Then your real side.
Her own flesh and blood,
Tipped her over the edge.
Took a while to recover,
She can only take so much,Â
But she came back stronger,
Picked up her paint brush.
Painted her way out of depression,Â
Turned a negative into profit,Â
Burned a whole in your reputation,Â
Left his charm out of pocket.
She considered rekindlingÂ
Old flames, old ties,Â
But her desire to was dwindling,
She’d seen through his disguise.Â
So she wrote an unsent letter,Â
Then tossed it in the fire.
An apology would be an admission,
A glaring omission.Â
What did you expect her to do?
What should she have said?
You ripped her heart in two,
Then left her for dead.
Blood is thicker than water,
Or so they say.
Not when you’re a cowardÂ
Who doesn’t get his own way.
