Thirteen Months

Thirteen Months

Throughout my whole life the number thirteen, has been such a lucky one for me;

But lately, that luck has drastically changed good fortune no longer to be!

For exactly thirteen months prior this date, angels came down and took you away;

And your age on that night was only thirteen; I thought you had more years to stay!

So on this sad day, thirteen months since you left, this number for me now means pain;

My heart has sobbed tears each day and each night, knowing I’ll not see you again!

All I have left are the photos I love; I look at your beautiful eyes;

They bring back the treasured times that we shared, bonded to each other’s sides!

I was lost in the labyrinth of my love for you, I failed to realize the signs;

When you coughed I thought you were clearing your lungs, unaware that you were not so fine!

When you slept for so long I thought it your age, thirteen and no longer young;

I thought you were tired from walking and play, not noticing an illness begun!

So that cold winter day of thirteen months passed, took me by complete surprise;

For on that day your vet said you were grave, and gave me some medicine try!

But twelve hours later I found you at peace, the angels had taken you ‘way;

I’d lost my dear soulmate; the love of my life, thirteen sad months to this day!
