This Battle

This Battle
I am weary from fighting this battle all alone
And so my tired heart is now coming home
I am tired of living in this life’s trenches
Kept out by so many barbed wire fences
My restless soul wants nothing but to freely roam
Maybe I will find peace and happiness at home
I want to swim in life’s endless river
And for my tired soul to be delivered
Bring an end to these ever flowing tears
Lock in a cage all of my lifelong fears
My enduring pain cuts just like a jagged knife
Bathe me in the waters of the spirit of life
Caught in the midst of wars of greed
Can you satisfy my endless aching need?
Will you comfort me when I am lost and down?
Keep both my feet planted firmly on the ground
Help to abolish the need for bombs and guns
So for our lives we need no longer run
We have been busy running for half our lives
At least we have gained the wisdom to survive
Life’s endless battle is nothing but an uphill fight
Pray everything will shine come morning light
As for my broken heart do your best to mend
Say that you will always remain my best friend

Excellent poetry Gary, Im blessed never to have felt the sting of war in this life, I'm sure in a previous life I was a soldier and now I'm resting.
