This Chain

This Chain

I'm holding on this chain,
Is this all that's left?
no thought no brain
but it has witnessed death
 time stamped memories
while it hung from her neck,
It was her favorite to wear
no words no text
hidden behind her hair
constantly she'd check
Shew.......it's still there.
whispering under her breath
 A desperate prayer
silently leaves my lips
No doubt that she hears
Overwhelmed with regret
uncontrollable tears
to many to catch
Are you still here?
Do you know how much it meant?
That this chain was there
When you were handed to death
Leaving us all in despair
No direction of what's next
But what can compare
To this feeling I get
knowing you'll always be near
as this chain hangs from my neck
