This Modern Stagnation

The growing is slow,
although it is now springtime.
Indeed, things appear
To be working backwards as
tulips are stunted,
and wintry winds still blow hard.
The gods and angels
fled such a long time ago.
No one believes in
the once vital power of
myths and legends; just
the curious among us.
Perhaps, Eliot
was right, when he named April,
as the cruellest month.
Although paradoxical,
I fear the shrieking,
of its unfamiliar
advances towards
me, in Time's bright whirligig.
Sweet liberty is
but a pipe dream, amidst this
relentless march of
neo-fascist bitterness.
Lullabies have now
become discordant ditties;
the old, rocking horse
rusted; rotten to the core,
in the forgotten
nursery of dream-visions.
Apathy can cut
down winged promise in its tracks
The distance is set,
within the vast depths, of
your inconsolable
blue eyes. O what went wrong?!
Communion is
not possible amidst this
haze of nothingness.
All things are disposable
in this cut-price world.
The arrows of modern love,
never hit the mark,
At the centre of the heart.

" I will not go quietly into that good night" a quote as close as I can get off the top of my head! I will fight for this ideal unto the bitter end! the Constitution is worth every ounce of energy I have! Apathy is all around, but " there be more with us than with them" as close as I can get again! " give me liberty, or give me death!" I believe that one is right on. cool write!..............Jim
Thanks Jim. Personally, I don't know who I'd vote for currently as none of the parties represent my views as a democratic socialist ( kind of like George Orwell's position). I guess it's a bit like TV these dayt....many choices but much of the same. If you look closely, behind all the vapid rhetoric and 'charm', we live in an oligarchy, similar to America. Indeed, things have got so bad in that country that in many ways that the ' progressive' Democrats are worse than the Repulicans..certainly in terms of foreign policy they are incredibly hawkish. Yet the public are distracted by fake identity politics instead of significant issues which, as a socialist, I believe centre around class. Consequently, I don't see any signs of real democracy; perhaps I'm being overtly cynical, who knows?
Anyway, I have much more positive poems on the way!
