THE TIDE WILL TURN

As I peer into the water
Lose all feeling; sense of time
My thoughts are delving in the deep
All words they turn to mime
My body it is floating
On the surface of the swell
My limbs displacing heaven
Whilst my mind, it soaks up hell
The feeling of now plunging
Into a deeper, darker realm
Is like a ship that’s cast within the sea
With no one at the helm
I am lost and I am battling
I’ve no defence with which to turn
My mind is craving sanity
A route for which I yearn
But my head is going under
And all thoughts they pull me in
The tide is washing nearer
And it snares me with its grin
I am helpless in its grasp
And I’m consumed within the surge
The bashing is relentless
All my inner fears I purge
It’s a brutal wave that took me
Battered all my hopes and fears
But I left those insecurities
Amongst the salty tears
Now the tide it rolls towards the sand
A gentle ripple; now it’s calm
I’m floating back towards the shore
I view a steadfast, single palm
It is strong within its solitude
Reaches high above the beach
I’m washed up, but not down and out
My hopes aren’t out of reach
Now the tide it leaves the shore once more
Drawn back into the sea
One day I know it will return
But it’ll never conquer me ....
