TO TOUCH THE SHADOW OF YESTERDAY
Nothing else matters

I can remember yesterday a lot clearer than todayÂ
Even though the chimes of midnight have not yet soundedÂ
So much focus on today deprived my mind of gratificationÂ
Beauty is glanced at and not consumed
Sounds are ignored by the ear, except for the whaling sirene
Screaming for one’s attentionÂ
The beauty of the swan gliding over the face of the water
Or the flock of birds bathing in the puddlesÂ
Left alongside the road from the summer’s passing showerÂ
Are side-eyed by the busy day of nothingness
Today may be full of new faces, fashion, and encountersÂ
As I follow the tracts of the almighty locomotiveÂ
Staring out the window of the rocking caboose
But it was yesterday that stained my heartÂ
With its portrate of love
O, that I may touch the shadow of yesterday!
Just a glimpse of yesterday’s sunshine will suffice
For it was yesterday that I first saw your face
It was yesterday that I encountered your captivating smileÂ
It was yesterday that I fell in love.
