Tonight

Tonight I listen to the quiet
The sound of life in little spaces
The sound of contentmentĀ
It shows in the dog snoring at my feet
In the way the windows are open

Letting in the breeze off the mountains
Ā I find myself holding a cup of lemon tea
Gazing off into the darknessĀ
Waiting for the sound of your car
Your keys in the door
Footsteps up the old wood steps

I sit smiling with a certainty
OF your beloved chatter as you lock up
As I hear bits and pieces of a long day
You get a cup of tea and a piece of cake
Come and sit next to me in the dark
and kiss me
