Too Beautiful To Last
Inspired by the theme song from the 1971 movie, Nicholas and Alexandra
Â
.
As do the butterflies in thirty days, or a rose when picked, dies fast;
Our love quickly faded out, for it was “Too Beautiful To Last”!
In the beginning it was like “Vesuvius”, bringing eruptions to our souls;
With lover’s passions spewing out, each time we’d closely hold!
.
But after all the smoke had cleared, the fires had fizzled out;
Words were said that hurt our hearts, bringing angst and lots of doubt!
We’d try to patch things up a bit, with a quick roll in the hay;
But the lack of fire was evident, and farther apart we grew each day!
.
Then one night we said goodbye, vowing always to stay friends;
For two weeks we would text a lot, but soon had other business tend!
Now when we see each other once a while, we hug and say hello;
We’ll talk a bit, and then we’ll part, “Oh where did all that passion go”?

This was so wonderfully expressed. I loved how you used a butterfly and a rose to depict how fast love can fade.
I look forward to reading more of your beautiful work!
Dear Gayle,
Your words too, are so beautifully expressed. Â So perceptive of you to pick up how the butterfly and the rose are so short lived. Â
I am going to read some of your poetry today too.
Peace and Love,
