Torment

Torment

Twisted country lane in darkness
A Criminal underworld slithers
In Breach of law and morality
To gain another's hard earned

His Cricket Conscience stood upon
Crushed by lack of warmth and love
Caring not for his fellow man
Wanting all without labour or graft

In house with prowl and step
Rummage through silver crest
In search of gold and jewel
To take without remorse

The heart of pensioner beats
His sweat does leak between sheets
Alone and afraid of noise unknown
As an entity nears his quarter

This ordeal lasts but a minute
But the scar, a gaping wound
For left behind is fear and sorrow
That bleeds into every morrow

No day, no light left in his life
Another victim sits in insecurity
While the thief reflects in silver coin
Proud of his bullion and torment.

Scary... because it's the truth...  happening time and time again, even if we are unaware. Safety is as much an illusion as everything else. Our castles have glass windows!! Well written x
