On Trial

On Trial

This evening
the inquisitive eyes
of my pet dog Buck
stepped into the room
to greet his master...
couldn't see his master
but could perceive
his fragrance upon
a pair of socks-
that he just stripped off
happily the dog
nibbled at the socks
and became more and more joyous-
this little rag is
far better than the
evening biscuits!
back in my room
I searched high and low
but a piece is missing...
in the courtyard
I saw Buck
dancing upon
and tearing apart
the cotton socks
I bought
three days back...
anger picked up the cane
and the dog did groan-
snarling eyes
did frighten me
but fury enraged
within the bones...
there were wounds on his chin...
I left him
at last in the kennel
and turned to
the furious eyes
of my parents-
"don't be a brute".
