Trick or Treat

Trick or Treat

Shadows flicker, monsters dance gleefully
hearts clamouring in chests, excitement mounts
ghouls and banshees happily running free
its the scares that succeed, everyone counts

Unravelling mummies, dismembered wolves
kids big and small, creeping, enjoying jumps
headless, disembowelled, surrounded by love
tonight no one gives them an annoyed thump

Parents greet monsters with laughter and hugs
oh yes, the night of All Hallows is here
all are allowed, skeletons and bedbugs
fairies, wizards, creepy crawlies all cheer

Someone opened a doorway with no head
a lot willingly ran into their bed
