Troublesome Tumbleweed
Invasively intrusive it stumbles and falls rolling in bundles of entangled balls
Accidental and aimless so randomly unplanned
boisterously blowing across the deserted sand
Like cowboys, wagon trains and buffalo
Tumbleweeds are icons of the old wild west show
Legends lie from bygone years
that Russian immigrants with hopes and fears
arrived in sunny South Dakota carrying flax seed
that was trampled and trodden with horse hoof stampede
Betwixt and between that Soviet flax seed
invisibly invading was Russian thistle, today’s Tumbleweed
Tho they are romantic symbols of our wild west love affair
These twisted balls of dead foliage spread everywhere
Tossing and tumbling in tresses of trouble
the brittle, bushy labyrinthine multiplies amidst the hubble and rubble
No man nor machinery can stop this grotesque greed
as the wild westerly wind blows the Tumbleweed
