Two Latvian Queens

Two Latvian Queens

Three cheers for you Jelena Ostapenko, the new French Open Queen;

You were unseeded in this competition, but your strokes were very clean!

You dismissed so many players, much higher ranked than you;

For your persistence and pin point accuracy, were all you needed do!

.

I have for you a special fondness, for the country that you represent;

Is the same from which my Bubbe came, before to America she went!

Another gifted girl from Latvia, another Champion here was crowned;

Over a century long before you, her niche, like you she found!

.

She was the Queen Mother of our family, her trophies were her progeny;

Her Beloved second son Hyman, was the man who fathered me!

Her name like yours was Lena, a beautiful Latvian lass;

Two women of high accolade, two women of pure first class!

.

This photo that I have of her, is precious and so dear;

For she is sitting with my sister Melodee, and cuddling so near!

So “Hip- Hip-Hooray” my lovely ladies, two Latvian Beauty Queens;

History holds a place for both of you, one in record books, one in genes!

.

                                             Lena my Bubbe

                                   Small woman with a large heart

                                         Your Progenies' Queen

Dear John,

Yours and my last two poems have been very similar.  Mine, a tribute to my "ancestry", and yours, a tribute to your "antscestry".  Ha, Ha!

Peace and Love,
