Two Sides To Every Story

TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY

by Gabriel Magno © 1985 (BMI)

Left my home, thumbed a ride through the pouring rain

Had enough of Texas, callouses and hauling 'pane

Had a girl I lost in Potter, traded me for someone hotter

But if my memory recalls, I believe she's been trading all along

On my own, there ain't nowhere I gotta be

And nowhere's where you'll find me, if you need a helping hand for free

I got no fancy friends to lean on, no promises to hang your dreams on

And on those cold and lonely nights, a glass of rye's my company

Dreaming 'bout the thrill, of holding someone mine to love

But I can't count, on a prayer for some help above

Stayed the night in Arizona, sipping on a warm Corona,

Across the barroom crowd, I caught her laying eyes on me

I've seen it all before, but I'm a born fool for a smile

Ain't no way to hide it, so I do the best I can in style

We ended up in some old motel, and man I thought I knew me so well

But in the morning she was gone, and with her every cent I owned

I heard it in a song, how the morning brings a brand new day

Well I need something more, then the sun burning through my grey

I'm thinking 'bout the same old heartache

That makes these poor old hands of mine shake

Every time I see the picture, of the girl I sold my soul to own

We all need somebody, and everybody's looking around

Don't know if I'm ready, but I'd sure be glad if I was found

Don't know if I still remember, the words I used to sing so tender

To the girl who said good-bye, it was once upon a time back home

They say there's two sides to every story, I got the pain, she got the glory

I'm back on the road, while she's back in love again

Well if there's two sides to every story, I know the ending ain't gonna worry me

You can't break a hard drinking good time man
