TYPICAL CHRISTMAS

The snow outside is fallingĀ
Christmas carolers callingĀ
Little children dawdlingĀ
The old and infirm fallingĀ
The tree inside is callingĀ
Lights are a blinkingĀ
Baubles are a hangingĀ
The open fire crackles and popsĀ
Slowly dyingĀ
Time to put on more logsĀ
Maybe some slippers that slobĀ
Slowly baste and roast that hogĀ
Cook the veggies on the hobĀ
Drink some wine like a snobĀ
Watch tv sprawled like a slobĀ
Wrap those presents nice and neatĀ
Place them at the foot of the tree
Hoping one of them is for meĀ
Eight more hours then Iāll seeĀ
If Santa remembered meĀ
Christmas time is a time to giveĀ
To bring together all that livesĀ
To put aside your differencesĀ
The arguments and indifference'sĀ
To eat as one , a family wholeĀ
The black sheep is welcomeĀ
Not disbarredĀ
The walls and doors are lined with cardsĀ
From friends and familyĀ
Home and abroadĀ
Some words inside strike a chordĀ
From forgotten friendsĀ
You wiped from your minds blackboard
The scene is setĀ
And so is the tableĀ
All sitĀ
Well those still ableĀ
No longer here
Ā told as a fableĀ
but still lies their name tagĀ
pride and place on the tableĀ
A little prayer to say grace
And to say merry ChristmasĀ
To those you canāt replace
Then silly hatsĀ
Popping crackersĀ
Stupid jokesĀ
That arenāt that funny Ā
But still we laughĀ
and hurt our tummiesĀ
then dance aroundĀ
like crazed bunniesĀ
The day is overĀ
the dishes doneĀ
the table clearedĀ
the fun is doneĀ
games have played
and have been wonĀ
the tv beckonsĀ
the nights begun
Sprawled out in front of the tellyĀ
Stuffed from your dinner beforeĀ
Mouths openĀ
Followed by a chorus of yawnsĀ
One by one each one falls asleepĀ
Inside that room no one hears a peepĀ
Just the snores from those that sleep
The tv plays on to its selfĀ
Till you wake and turn it offĀ
Ā Nudge the others
Turn off the lightsĀ
Get in bed and shout goodnightĀ
Get comfortableĀ
Then sleepĀ
Till night is daylightĀ
Ā
