UKRAINIAN FAMILY 2022

He smiles to his father his father smiles back
Bombs all around their city under so much attack
He kisses his mother gets a kiss in return 
Their home where they live is starting to burn

His younger brother cried and he cried too 
Warfare and killing there is nothing else to do
His sister isn't there she died late last night 
Laid down her life to help her country's plight 

Just another Ukrainian family living for today
Making decisions whether to leave or to stay
I'm left scratching my head as I wonder why
Innocent lives lost that didn't ask to die
