Unknown soldier

Unknown Soldier
I awoke to the sound of battle, wounded, face down in the mud
Certain death I thought , so much blood
Ready for the end, I rolled onto my back
The machine gun rings out crack, crack, crack
O why am I fighting in this foreign land
Will I ever again hold my true loves hand
Will they scribe my name onto a wall
Or build a statue to stand seven feet tall
Will my children Β place a cross in the sand
Or learn how their father died for his land
This first of July we marched right into hell
Now no one nearby and no one to tell
Β When my country came. Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β I answred the call
So naive to think that I never would fall
On my last gasp I murmured one farewell
On this cold July morn. an unknown soldier fell.
